In the Land of Search Engines, Content Will Always Remain King

Content has always remained king and always will. This is true in relationships, movies, books, TV shows, and yes even for search engines. Ever wonder how search engines find content for the user searching?

Search engines are constantly crawling all over the internet, searching for new and updated content. Search engines are always careful to give the end user the best results first. So the million dollar question is, how does a search engine determine the best results?

There are a few things taken into consideration when a search engine makes this decision, but all of those things revolve around the concept of content. Search engines are looking for content that is always updated.

Updated content is usually both fresh and rich. This is why many times when you run a search you will see blogs or even community forums at the top of the list. These types of sites always have updated information and a wide array of users contributing. These users are usually either enthusiasts or professionals. A website with no content updates quickly becomes outdated, dry and static.

Original and authentic content pays the highest dividends. If content is being made up on the fly, don’t expect much to come from it. Viewers are looking for solid content.

A more obvious characteristic that search engines use in determining the best sites is SEO (Search Engine Optimization) ranking. SEO is typically achieved by the presence of keywords in your articles. You basically want to use keywords that you know people will be searching for. But keep in mind that being overly redundant can make content harder and less interesting to read.

Content should be as unique as possible. The more unique you can be come, the less competition you will have. If the content you are providing is also provided by 20 other websites your success will be very limited. Offer a unique content trend that competitors aren’t meeting.

Formatting is also important for content. There should always be a familiar structure so that users of the internet stay where you’ve worked so hard to direct them. Content works in two ways. Content brings users to your website, and content delivers information you want to give. You must succeed in both these avenues to have success.

Last but not least, content is important, but generating backlinks to your content is even more important.  It’s been said that 90% of ranking high is related to a site’s backlinks, and the other 10% is due to on page optimization.
